Hi, I'm Suhail Azmi

Ahmad Suhail bin Azmi graduated from Universiti Putra Malaysia with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (Multimedia) in 2006 and master’s degree by research in Computer Graphics & Computer Vision in 2012. While doing research during his master’s degree, he also published a paper in Rome, secured a Malaysian patent on his invention, and won the Gold Medal in ITEX 2012.

After graduating, he worked as a graphics designer in a UK courseware company based in USJ, Subang Jaya. After serving for 9 months in the Computerised Training System (UK), he got offered a master’s degree sponsored by Malaysian Research Grant.

During his master’s degree, Suhail also worked as a Research Assistant for the two years. At the same time, he also served as a part-time lecturer, teaching Introduction to Multimedia for undergraduates for two semesters. He then taught OpenGL lab demonstration for Computer Graphics in his faculty for 3 more semesters.

After graduating with a master's degree, in October 2012, he got offered to work in PETRONAS under the Technical Capability Management Department. His responsibility to enhance and maintain the PETRONAS Occupational Skills Standard (POSS) for technician group wide. During his three years with PETRONAS, Suhail has been involved and led a few projects, including the conversion of POSS to NOSS (National Occupational Skills Standard) for the Government of Malaysia and adaptation of POSS for ENGEN in South Africa.

Suhail then resigned from PETRONAS to start his own startup Technerd Lab Sdn Bhd, an app company based in Cyberjaya. One of the apps won RM 500,000 from the Malaysian government to expand globally as most of the downloads coming from US, France and Germany. To expand the idea of the app, Technerd Lab also got accepted to MaGIC Accelerator Program (MAP), where only 60 startups from ASEAN countries were eligible to enter. During this 4-months intensive training bootcamp, Suhail was fortunate to be mentored by Hans Peter Ressel, who was the CEO of LAZADA Malaysia at the time.

Using the international connection from MAP and mentoring he got from Hans, Suhail collaborated with a Korean partner (Cho) to bring cosmetic products from Korea to Malaysia. Hweidong Cho was the general manager in marketing for South East Asia for SeersLab. With the partnership, Suhail learnt about Social Media Marketing and Influencer Marketing. The business project was a success because they earned profit of RM 10,000 in the first 2 month, and revenue of RM 150K in the first year.

Another opportunity arises while working for a project from a Bangladesh company based in Malaysia. During the project, Suhail went to Taipei, Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Guangzhou where he met a fellow Malaysian living in Guangzhou. They started a small business venture to bring SME products from China to Malaysia. The small project became bigger with few more corporate clients eager to join their services. They ended up creating a company to handle new accounts from China.

Today, Suhail operates a marketing consultation company, helping small startups and SME to get digital presence for their brands, products and services. He also works as a freelance trainer for the various subjects in digital marketing. Audience loves the vast experience he has in doing actual business and his methods of unconventional ways to do marketing.
